More and more, scientific studies are showing that an active senior is a vibrant senior. Between physical activities for seniors, staying mentally active, and keeping up a healthy social circle, older people can prolong healthy living by years or even decades. With all the attention people put into good nutrition and exercise when they’re young, it is amazing that senior activities have escaped attention until recently. Fortunately, things are changing, and changing quickly! Within a decade, active seniors will be the norm and the days of old people sitting bored in front of the TV all day will be a distant memory.

Choosing appropriate activities for seniors is easier than you might think. The main thing is that seniors live in or have access to facilities where social activities are organized. A lot of senior homes nowadays have poker nights, bingo games, water aerobics, and many other types of physical fitness activities and social gatherings that seniors enjoy. Sometimes, community centers go one better than this and take seniors out by the bus load to enjoy field trips to local hot spots for the elderly. Gambling halls are popular, as are certain scenic destinations and even amusement parks. Senior citizens activities are as diverse as the people who partake in them.

Unfortunately, the decreased mobility of seniors means that if activities are not nearby, there is often no way to get to them. My grandmother actually recently moved into a center that has a senior martial arts program – the first in the state. They focus on internal arts such as tai chi, allowing seniors to reap the benefits of physical training without overtly exerting themselves. I have to say that grandmother has actually gotten really good at tai chi recently. She moves with a grace and style that I didn’t know she would be capable of anymore. It’s as if staying active has made her younger.

And in the end, that is what Hobbies for seniors are all about. A lot of people are starting to believe that growing old is more about attitude that it is about physical condition. Often, when people start to give up hope and resign themselves to aging and dying, their health starts to decline rapidly. Seniors who stay happy and active don’t have time to get sick. Creative Hobbies

In my mind, the Creative Hobbies are the best ones. Don’t get me wrong – I have no problem with people who like to join football clubs, go hiking on a nice spring day, or pass the afternoon away with books. All of those are great things for you, and they can be a lot of fun, but for me the most important thing is to exercise my creative voice. I think that the desire to create is an innate human one. Back in earlier times, everyone had to do a lot of crafting just to get by. Over thousands and thousands of years, we evolved tool making abilities. Creative hobbies allow you to exercise some of this human ingenuity on your off hours – a vital release for most of us living in the modern urban world.

All of the creative hobbies are very different, and not every craft is for every person. The most abstract creative hobby, of course, is writing. Everyone likes telling stories, although most people don’t recognize it. If you go to a movie and give someone a synopsis, you are storytelling. If you hear a juicy bit of gossip and embellish it before passing it on, you are constructing a story. Writing fiction takes this pleasurable activity to another level. Even if you don’t have the skills to be a masterful author, I highly recommend giving it a try. It is one of the best creative Hobbies out there.

For me, however, a creative hobby has to be a little bit more concrete to be truly rewarding. That is why I have always loved model making. I began building models when I was just a boy. I would construct scale plastic models with my dad and paint them in intricate detail. I moved on from there to other similar creative hobbies. Right now, my big passion is building and flying radio controlled airplanes. This may be an expensive hobby, but it is a lot of fun. One plane can give you hundreds of hours of enjoyment as you experience the world of an aviator in miniature. You can do it in a variety of different ways as well. Some people go to the hobby store and pick up an almost ready to fly aircraft, while others prefer to take the time to assemble it in detail themselves. I’ve always been of the latter camp. For me, half the fun is putting it together.

Have you ever noticed that you neglect your Fiber collection because you don’t want to deal with the hassle of locating the color you need, untangling everything, finding the collection that matches or having to iron them after being folded for so long? Implementing an easy system for organizing your fibers will make them visible and accessible when you are ready to use them for scrapbooking!

Try these 3 simple steps to organize your fibers
Step 1 – Get Your Fibers Together
Bring all your fibers together. This may take a good while for a few of us. We tend to stash our fibers anywhere they will fit because they’re bendable, durable, and relatively small. They’re pliable, mostly indestructible and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. This makes them the perfect candidates for getting spread around instead of well organized. So obviously the first thing you should do is the gather your fibers in one place. Search the house, go through your scrapbook supplies, and get those fibers out.

Step 2 – Sort your Fibers According to Categories
In this step divide your fibers into categories.
Your first category will be according to theme. (Ribbon with soccer balls would be grouped with sports, Ribbon silkscreened with the words Happy Birthday would go in birthday, etc.)
Secondly you would group them by collection. Many of us scrapbookers buy our paper and fibers by collections, such as BasicGrey FRUITCAKE, and it is helpful if we keep these items together. So the second category I recommend is Collections.
The third category will be Seasons and Holidays. Easter Bunnies, Christmas Trees, etc. These are generally ribbon with holiday or seasonal designs.
Fourth category will be Color. This is where you put all the Fibers that don’t fit in any of the first 3 categories. Separate the ribbons within this group according to color.

Step 3 – Store and Display Your Fibers
Once you have your fibers sorted and grouped, it will be easy to find what you need when you’re ready, even if you don’t have the latest tools to assist with organization. Now I use the ScrapRack, which is completely amazing… but if you’re not looking to spend money at the moment, I used to use notched squares I cut out of cereal boxes and paper clips… worked pretty good actually. whatever specific organizing method you use, You will only have to turn to the coordinating section of your new system and you will be able to find exactly what fiber you need for your layout.

If you find yourself struggling with organizing your scrapbook fibers and other supplies, you may need to get the scraprack. I have personally saved myself hundred of hours of time since I got one. And anyway, I scrapbook because I love it!Takes all the fun out when I have to spend half an hour looking for that bit of red ribbon I know I saw last month… Definitely worth at least checking out the best scrapbook organizers I’ve ever found.
